Eugene D. Nesin

Eugene Nesin was elected to the Monticello Board of Education in 1976. Although he was still commuting to Manhattan to work on a daily basis and the School Board would take a big commitment of his time, Eugene wanted to be a larger part of the community he so loved. He also knew that by being a Board member it would give him a chance to do good for the children with whom he had a strong connection.

Eugene died unexpectedly in February 2009. He devoted a total of 33 years serving the Monticello School District community, 14 of those as the Board vice president. What he leaves behind is a reputation of being a generous, kind, loving man who wasn’t afraid of speaking his mind and standing up for what was best for the students in the district.
He left behind a community full of friends and associates who know that he was a one-of-a-kind humanitarian and that they’ll never be able to fill the void he has left.
